I Thought I Was Too Dumb to Pass the HSE/GED…

There was a time when I truly believed something was wrong with me.

Not just struggling… but feeling like I just didn’t have what it takes to pass the ged.

Every time I looked at a math problem, read a long passage, or tried to study, that voice in my head would get louder:

“You’re not smart enough.”
“You’re too far behind.”
“This isn’t for you.”

And after hearing that long enough, I started to believe it.

The Lie I Told Myself

The biggest mistake I made wasn’t failing questions.

It was labeling myself as “dumb.”

Because once you believe that, everything becomes harder:

  • You stop trying as much
  • You get frustrated faster
  • You expect to fail before you even start

I wasn’t dumb. I was just discouraged.

I wasn’t incapable. I just didn’t have the right support, the right strategy, or the confidence yet.

The Turning Point

At some point, I had to be real with myself.

If I kept believing that lie, nothing in my life was going to change.

So I made a decision:

Even if I feel like I can’t do it… I’m going to keep going anyway.

Not perfectly.
Not confidently.
But consistently.

And that changed everything.

What Helped Me Keep Going

I didn’t wake up one day suddenly confident.

I built it slowly.

Here’s what actually helped:

  • I focused on one subject at a time instead of overwhelming myself
  • I used simple explanations and videos until things started making sense
  • I stopped comparing myself to other people
  • I gave myself credit for small progress

Some days I still felt stuck.

But I didn’t quit.

The Truth About the GED/HSE

Passing the GED isn’t about being the smartest person in the room.

It’s about:

  • Showing up
  • Staying consistent
  • Pushing through frustration
  • Believing, even just a little, that you can improve

That’s it.

If You Feel Like You’re Not Smart Enough

Let me tell you something I wish someone told me earlier:

You are not too dumb to pass the GED.

You might be:

  • Out of practice
  • Overwhelmed
  • Doubting yourself
  • Tired of failing

But that doesn’t define your ability.

You can learn.
You can improve.
You can pass.

Where I Am Now

I’m not the same person who thought they couldn’t do it.

I passed.

And not because I was the smartest — but because I didn’t quit on myself.

That voice that once told me “you can’t” is a lot quieter now.

Final Message

If you’re reading this and thinking the same thing I used to think…

Don’t believe that lie.

You are capable of more than you think.

Take it one step at a time.
Keep showing up.
Have faith in yourself — even on the days it’s hard.

Because one day, you’re going to look back and realize…

You were never “too dumb.”

You just needed to keep going.

Stay focused. Stay consistent. Have faith.
